A Lonely Outcast boy must try and bring the toy animal that is terrorizing his family back under control before it Destroys his family.
SYNOPSIS
Lucas is a lonely outcast boy of 8, that everybody teases and picks on. Even his family treats him like dirt. All he wants is a friend to help him cope with his problems. He is given a Teddy Bear by his father in hopes that the bear will protect him from the way he is treated.
After reading Frankenstein, Lucas decides he wants to try and bring the bear to life. He goes into the garage and hooks the bear up to a car battery using jumper cables. The bear comes alive and tells Lucas that everything will be all right and that no one is going to bother him any more. Over the course of a week, the bear starts to terrorize the people that have been hurting Lucas. It starts out small but as the week progresses things escalate very quickly until the bear gets locked into a chest.
After Teddy gets out of the chest, he goes on a murderous rampage while Lucas is sleeping. Lucas wakes up to find his mother is dead in the kitchen. Lucas starts confronting Teddy about what he has done when his dad comes in and sees the truth of everything that happened.
Three Central themes
The first theme of the film is suspense. This is covered the nature of the film. Is the bear really alive, what’s going to happen to the people that picked on him? As the story progresses the story draws you into the world of the boy and his bear.
The next theme is a bit more in depth. It deals with loneliness. It is essentially the story of man vs. himself. The main character Doesn't fit in. everybody picks on him, so as a coping mechanism he creates a friend with his Teddy bear to help him deal with the outside world.
The third central theme is revenge. The main character wants to take steps against the people who are picking on him but he Doesn't know how. So he creates a Gollum to do his dirty work for him in the form of a bear.
Treatment
Teddy takes place in the modern world. It is about a lonely outcast boy who is constantly picked on by everyone around him. The film starts out with kids playing on the schoolyard playground. Lucas is sitting off by himself reading a book. Soon after, he gets up and tries to play with the other kids but Is not able to do the monkey bars like the others. He falls off and everybody starts to laugh and tease him. Lucas leaves with his head down. the kids leaving school and once again Lucas is left out, to the point that the school bus leaves without him. When his dad finally comes to pick him up, Lucas learns that his parents are getting a divorced and that his dad will not be living with him anymore. To ease Lucas’s pain his dad gives him a teddy bear and tells him that the bear will keep him safe and that no one will pick on him anymore. For the next few days his family shows the depth of their unkindness to him. without his father around to help shield him from their torments, Lucas decides to bring his bear to life just like in the stories he reads.
things have changed for Lucas now that his friend Teddy is there to help him. During the course of the next week things start escalating worse for Lucas and Teddy. The first instance is with one of the bullies at school. The bully makes fun of Lucas while playing on the monkey bars. Teddy pushes the boy of the bars resulting with the bully falling and breaking his arm. Next, Lucas has issues with both of his sisters which results with the destruction of his sister’s favorite toys and the death of the family dog. At this point the mom has had enough of this, so she locks Teddy into a trunk.
Lucas breaking out his friend Teddy from the toy chest. Teddy is very upset with being locked in the toy chest and vows to get revenge on everyone. After Lucas goes to sleep, teddy goes on a murderous rampage killing everyone in the house. Lucas wakes to find Teddy in the kitchen standing over the body of his dead mother. Lucas and Teddy have a showdown which results in Teddy Stepping towards Lucas with the knife raised. Right before the blow is delivered Lucas’s dad has come home to get Lucas. The Dad sees the truth about what has happened and is forever changed.
